A week ago when we were still scrambling for answers we heard rumblings the rift was at least partially due to Sarkozy’s apparent distaste for his younger bride’s career. Um, what??
Yup, a fashion source hinted to People about the cause of the “brutal” breakup:
“She’s super career focused and he’s very French and wanted her to be more available.”
Well, that was only the half of it apparently!

Another source is now telling the mag just how much of a culture clash this was, as the Elizabeth and James designer’s work ethic completely confounded her husband:
“Mary-Kate is extremely hard working and focused on her business. Her work schedule is beyond disciplined. She is the type of person who would never complain about a 12 hour work day. Olivier never understood her drive and passion.”
WHAT?! She was already a fashionista when he married her, what the hell did he think, she was just going to give it all up for him? Like her empire meant less than his banking money?
According to this insider that’s exactly what he thought:
“He would have loved to have a stay-at-home wife.”
Whoa. That is completely ridiculous.
But apparently this disagreement has been going on a long time — and has resulted in Olivier basically taking vacations off from the marriage! The source says:
“Olivier loves traveling to tropical places with his French friends. He traveled without her several times.”
Seriously?? What married couple acts like that?
It sounds like these two were a bad fit from the start if we’re being honest. And obviously it got worse over time if reports are to be believed.
Another source recently claimed, also to People, that Mary-Kate changed her stance on wanting to have children as she got older, saying:
“A few years ago, having a baby was not a priority for her. This has changed.”
But Olivier, who is now 50 years old and already has two children with his ex-wife was past that part of his life and not willing to get back into it.
“Olivier has two grown kids and doesn’t want more. Mary-Kate thought he would budge on that and he hasn’t.”
Why is it every dispute between these two was him expecting her to change who she was and not being able to compromise?
And now we’re seeing the same thing in their messy divorce, as she alleges he kicked her out of their NYC apartment in the middle of a pandemic…
