Survey on Japan Plan to Promote Women Participation in Politics: Nearly Half of Enterprises Consider Adding Women Directors

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroshi Matuno said that the government plans to actively promote women’s participation, especially at the political level.

According to the latest report of the World Economic Forum on measuring gender equality, Japan ranked 125 out of 146 countries, down 9 places from last year, and ranked 138 out of 146 countries in the political field.

A survey by the Japan Broadcasting Association found that nearly half of the local large enterprises that have never had female directors are considering adding female members to the board of directors, but most of the interviewed enterprises said they intend to find female executives from outside, including lawyers and university professors. Only a few companies plan to promote internally.
