[see China’s May 22, 2020] the extradition case of Meng Wanzhou finally comes! Next Wednesday (May 27) a hefty verdict on relations between the Communist Party of China, Canada and the United States will be announced. After a year and a half, the Meng case finally came to an end.

The Supreme Court of British Columbia will announce the key findings of the extradition case of Meng Wanzhou at 11 a.m. on May 27 (next Wednesday) Vancouver time, globe and mail said in the May 21 daily. According to Heather Holmes, chief justice of BC Province, she will adjudicate whether the Bangladesh case involves double crimes on the 27th day – that is, whether the fraud charges that Meng Wanzhou was accused by the US (suspected of concealing the relationship between Huawei and skycom, an Iranian subsidiary of HSBC) are also established in Canada.

This means that as long as the verdict is negative, Meng Wanzhou can leave the court and return to China; however, once judge Heather Holmes ruled that the case involves dual crimes, the case will enter a new stage of legal debate, and Meng Wanzhou may eventually be extradited to the United States.

If the dual crime is convicted, the court will ask Meng to stay in Vancouver and begin to consider allegations from all parties, including the Canada Border Services Agency, the RCMP and the Federal Bureau of the United States, in December 2018 Whether Meng Wanzhou’s “secret criminal investigation” at the airport is illegal, etc.

At present, Meng Wanzhou and his team of lawyers firmly deny the accusation of “fraud charges”, and claim that the party suffered “illegal investigation” at the airport, and request the Supreme Court of British Columbia to dismiss the case.

Richard peck, a lawyer for Meng Wanzhou, also believes that Canada abandoned sanctions against Iran in 2016, and that the accusation of the United States is essentially based on “political punishment” against Iran, rather than the apparent “fraud charge” in the Bangladesh case, so the British Columbia Supreme Court has the right to dismiss the case.

However, the British Columbia Supreme Court responded that it was the judge’s job to determine whether there was enough evidence to support the case’s original “fraud charges” in both Canada and the United States, rather than considering the “political sanctions” behind it. The remarks seem to hint at the outcome to be announced next week, and apart from the clear attitude of the British Columbia Supreme Court, Trudeau, Canada’s prime minister, has enough confidence in the country’s judicial justice.

Trudeau said on May 21 that he was disappointed by the continuing differences between China and Canada in the Bangladesh case and said the differences seriously damaged bilateral relations. The Communist Party of China believes that Canada is involved in a political conspiracy aimed at weakening Huawei’s strength, while Canada says it has signed an extradition agreement with the United States. Under the premise of judicial independence and justice, the Canadian government has no right to interfere in the direction of the case or decide whether to release Meng Wanzhou.

As a result, Trudeau went on to say publicly this morning: “the Chinese Communist Party seems to have little understanding of Canada’s judicial system. It is an independent operating system, superior to politics and free from interference by any political figures.”

Trudeau added: “Canadians value this legal system very much and we need to keep it strong enough to ensure that it distributes power within a democratic system.” Finally, Trudeau stressed that the independence of the judiciary means that Canada will never interfere in the Bangladesh case.

Global and Mail reported that in December 2018, shortly after Meng Wanzhou was arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the Communist Party of China also detained two Canadians on appropriate charges, including one former Canadian diplomat and the other Canadian entrepreneur. Trudeau finally called on China and Canada to deal with the case rationally and not to have any excessive behavior.
